Mops and sucker trucks have been replaced by an army of tradies as the post-flood assessment and repair work gets underway at Auckland Airport’s international terminal following last Friday’s exceptional weather event.
“We’re seen more than 127,000 international travellers through the terminal since the flooding, and another 26,000 arrive and depart today. With key mechanical and electrical systems getting back up and up running, we’ve rapidly swung into repair mode for any flood impacted property,” Auckland Airport Chief Executive Carrie Hurihanganui said.
“Like thousands of other property owners around Auckland, we are getting on with what will be a significant repair job. The focus of crews is removing flood-damaged carpet and lower sections of wall linings across the ground floor of the international terminal and in limited areas of the domestic terminal.
“Some of the work will be back of house, but it will also need to be carried out in areas used by travellers and the public inside our international terminal, such as the check-in and arrivals hall.
“We want to minimise the impact of these works as much as possible for travellers and airport workers. The work will be carried out in contained areas with safe routes for people to walk around, however we want people to know that there may be some disruption as these important works get underway.”
“If travellers could bear with us as we work through this process that would be greatly appreciated,” she said.
