Auckland’s move into Alert Level 4 for a period of seven days will mean a number of changes for travellers at Auckland Airport.
As an essential service Auckland Airport remains operational but for 48 hours from 11:59, Tuesday 17 August domestic travel to and from Auckland has been restricted to those needing to get home or travelling for other essential purposes. Beyond this 48-hour period flights will be restricted to those undertaking Alert Level 4 services and to transport freight (or for other permitted reasons).
International flights for arrivals into MIQ and from Rarotonga will still be operating. Flight schedules may be impacted by the alert level change so travellers should contact their airline directly if they have any questions or concerns.
Access to the domestic and international terminals will only be open to passengers travelling that day. With only essential items available for purchase in the terminals and inflight food and beverage suspended on domestic flights, travellers need to come prepared for the trip ahead.
Auckland Airport’s tips for travellers include:
All car parks, including Park & Ride, and pick up / drop off areas will remain open. Contactless PayWave is an option on entry and exit for those preferring not to use the car park payment machines. People with parking bookings for the next couple of days will be contacted directly by Auckland Airport with details for how to make arrangements to cancel or reschedule those bookings. Valet Parking operations will be open for returning customers only.
Public transport, rideshare and taxis will still be available. The interterminal bus will operate until Thursday evening at which point the service will be reviewed.
SkyBus will be suspending services until further notice at the completion of the last service at 22.15 Thursday, 19 August from the airport.
